It started out with a simple, earnest ambition to create and share some good old-fashioned cake with our local community; cake that was made with real wholesome ingredients, and was familiar and comforting.

In a world of mass-produced confections, we wanted to go back to basics and bake like our mums and grandmothers used to – moist red velvet cupcakes topped with vanilla buttercream, apple pound cake drizzled with caramel, decadent chocolate brownies, warm and fudgey on the inside. The kind of scents, flavours and textures that make us nostalgic for days gone by.

From humble beginnings at a small take-away spot in Singapore’s Holland Village, today we sell baked goods, food, lifestyle goods and homewares across four outlets.

But we haven’t forgotten our roots, or that nolstalgia for savouring something that is home-made. As sticklers for quality and simplicity, we take great pride in what we do and take time to continuously perfect all of our creations – our range of deli and bake items are hand crafted in small-quantities using fresh produce, wholesome ingredients and no artificial preservatives; and the selection of packaged food and homeware products we carry in our stores represent the work of others in our community of like-minded makers, who share our passion for quality, simplicity and sustainability.

Several years ago, I was bogged down by extreme work stress and regular gastric problems. After I quit my day job, I decided to care more for myself. Turning #vegan and taking up #yoga were the best things I've ever done. I began this healing journey to promote a movement of slowing down life's pace, taking the time to be aware of one's surroundings, and seeking the right #balance as a #conscious consumer.

For me, leading a #slowlife is all about our #health and taking cues from the #nature. That means listening to the wind, watching the sun set, making something with our bare hands, taking in the smell of freshly cut grass and tasting food in its most original state. It is really about being more #mindful of all our five senses. You learn to pull back, see the big picture, and take the time to enjoy the #normality of everyday life.

So focus on the good life, one that is rich with a #simple appreciation of everyday #joy. Focus on achieving a life of #mindfulness, holistically and sustainability, one where your own physical and mental #wellbeing comes before anything else.
